Marc Murray 

Marc Murray, originally from Cape Town, South Africa, relocated to the United Kingdom in 2010 to assume the position of Director of Music at St Botolph’s Church (The Stump) in Boston, Lincolnshire. Until June 2015, he also served as conductor for Peterborough Opera and collaborated regularly with the Boston Music Theatre Group.

Marc currently serves as Director of Music at Bury Parish Church, Foundation Organist and Organ Teacher at Bolton School, and as a visiting teacher at both Stonyhurst College and Liverpool Hope University. He conducts the Preston Cecilian Choral Society, The Rawstorne Singers, and the Southport Bach Choir. The Southport Bach Choir received high praise at the 2024 International Bach Festival in Leipzig and has been invited to return for the 2027 Festival.

In 2019, Marc earned an MA in Performance Practice from the University of York, specialising in early organ and harpsichord repertoire under the supervision of Professor Peter Seymour. He is expected to complete his doctoral studies at the University of York in autumn 2025. Marc holds teaching and performance qualifications from the University of South Africa, Trinity College of Music, London, and the Royal College of Organists, including the College’s Fellowship and Choral Directing Diploma. He is also an Accredited Teacher with the Royal College of Organists.

In South Africa, Marc contributed to the National Department of Education (DoE) school singing programme and served as accompanist and vocal coach for the DoE’s South African Youth Choir. He also held the positions of Acting Chorus Master and subsequently Assistant Chorus Master for Cape Town Opera.

Marc has performed as a continuo player with both the Ad Hoc Baroque Ensemble and Leeds Baroque.
