Singing from the heart of Lancashire since 1927

Marco Fanti appointed as Musical Director

May 2010

Thirty-four year old Italian, Marco Fanti has accepted Preston Cecilians’ invitation to be their new Director and Conductor. He was born, and currently lives, in Bologna where, among other appointments he teaches Music at Bologna University. He enjoys a wide range of experience in many aspects of classical music, holding a number of degrees and honours. He is also currently Musical Director of the Lancaster Singers, commuting regularly from Italy.

Marco has an impressive track record in the classical music field, especially choral activity. Starting young as a chorister he quickly built up a reputation as a singer of note before taking up the violin and piano. At the same time he studied singing and specialized in choral and orchestral conducting. Among his major achievements he has conducted the Romanian State Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica del Lario and the Coro and Orchestra Athena.

Marco will join the Cecilians in September, moving to the U.K. to live. His wife Cristina currently works at Bologna University and studies Scottish Enlightement.

Marco says "I am delighted and honoured to be joining the Cecilians. The choir has a fine reputation and a distinguished history. I have been drawn to the U.K. for a number of reasons, but mainly because I am impressed with the quality and enthusiasm for choral music which seems to be enjoying increasing popularity. I have built up a great deal of experience directing and conducing choirs and orchestras; this, with my earlier background as a singer and musician will prove useful to us all, and I look forward to it very much".
