About the Cecilians
Though the singers are amateurs, we employ a professional conductor and accompanist, enabling us to take achieve high standards while taking on repertoire which is both challenging and rewarding for us and (we’re assured!) our audience. Our repertoire in any season can cover the range from orchestral to unaccompanied concerts, from Baroque to newly-composed pieces, and include music from across the globe.
Although for major concerts we may engage external soloists, there are also frequent opportunities for members to take on solo roles. We typically perform three main concerts per year, with occasional other performances and workshops. Besides our regular concerts, the choir has featured on BBC radio, and in 2008 we performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the Guildhall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
New members
We’re always delighted to hear from prospective new members in all voices. We rehearse on Monday evenings in a school in central Preston. The best way to get to know us is to come along to a rehearsal or two.
If you’d like to find out how friendly we are, and see if our style and repertoire suit you, please get in touch to find out when the next rehearsals are.
If you do decide you'd like to join us, there is a (very friendly) audition just to confirm that you’re singing in the best section, and there is a modest annual membership subscription.
