About the Cecilians
Though the singers are amateurs, we employ a professional conductor and accompanist, enabling us to take achieve high standards while taking on repertoire which is both challenging and rewarding for us and (we’re assured!) our audience. Our repertoire in any season can cover the range from orchestral to unaccompanied concerts, from Baroque to newly-composed pieces, and include music from across the globe.
Our season runs from the beginning of September, and we typically perform three major concerts per year (roughly one per term), with occasional other smaller concerts or workshops. Although for major concerts we may engage external soloists, there are also frequent opportunities for members to take on solo roles.
Besides our regular concerts, the choir has featured on BBC radio, and in 2008 we performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the Guildhall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
